I went to Japan several times during 2000. I went to a conference in Nagoya and gave lectures at Kyushu University, Waseda University, and the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
I also visited Kanazawa, the Noto Peninsula, Kyoto, Saitama, and Nagasaki.

Kanasawa and Noto

Kanazawa has one of the "big 3" Japanese gardens.

Here is a temple I visited on the Noto Peninsula.

Kyoto

Kyoto was the old capital of Japan. It was spared during most of the bombing of WWII,
so there an amazing numbers of old temples, shrines, and gardens Here is the golden pavillion.
This is a totally amazing cemetary set in the side of a mountain.
We got to observe a dragon ceremony that only happens once every 33 years.

Nagasaki

After giving a lecture at Fukuoka University I drove down to visitit Nagasaki.
Here is a Spectacle bridge.
This is the Chinese Temple.
There are some unusual temples in Nagasaki.
Here is a parade of children.

Nagoya

I went to the Advanced Motion Control Conference in Nagoya.
There is an excellent aquarium.
And a huge castle.
