I attended a conference in Hawaii in August of 99. We had four papers at the IEEE Conference on Control Applications.
Nine of us made the trip to the Kona Coast of the big Island. We rented two nice condos for the week.
Here is a picture of the whole crew at South Point, the southern most point in the United States.

There are some pretty significant cliffs at South Point. Five of us Made the Leap.

Here is Junko tempting the fates by climbing on the jagged lava rocks at South Point:

We went snorkling at a remote cove where Captain Cook was killed.
To reach the cove, you either had to canoe in about 20-25 minutes, or hike in about 1 hour.
We loaded our gear onto the canoe and Lila and Ravi paddled over to the cove.
Meanwhile the rest of us hiked down to the inlet.

After staying 5 days on the big island, five of us went to Honolulu for a couple of days.
On one of the days, Junko and I ran/walked from Waikikki to the top of Diamond Head.

One night we got dressed up and when to a nice Japanese restaurant. Junko
